DEALFLOWUPDATE
Issue #11. Friday, June 22

What do you know about venture capital?
In this issue I want to take a moment to reflect and share some of our observations from building Zoic. Since starting Zoic five years ago and the thousands of deals since then, we have come away with what we believe are a handful of interesting observations.

First, while having a high quantity of deal flow is important, ensuring that they are high quality is just as important. To that end, cultivating a broad network of personal relationships with everyone from academic labs to incubators is key.

Second, many early stage investors spend a surprisingly limited amount of time on diligence. While time consuming,  an intensive diligence process along with stringent deal criteria is critical to uncovering red flags and insights that would otherwise remain hidden.

Finally, active investors whom have a broad based network, either of partners or advisors, appear to be positioned to create significantly more value. Accomplished largely through addressing problems before they arise.

What observations do you have about venture capital or early stage investing? Here at Zoic we believe that it is critical to constantly be learning not only from our experiences but from our partners as well.  As such, what observations or insights can you share?

Thanks for reading and I hope everyone has an enjoyable weekend…
